How I Spent My Winter Break

Driven by faith, breaking barriers, and inspiring the next generation of Latina leaders in law.

This winter break was a bit of a rollercoaster for me.  I had planned a relaxing vacation to Maui, eager to unwind after a long year.  Little did I know, I would be flying out the same day the devastating fires broke out in Los Angeles.  While the island paradise offered stunning landscapes and moments of calm, my mind was constantly pulled back to the heartbreaking news from home.

At first, I struggled to enjoy the trip.  It felt wrong to relax when so many colleagues and friends were facing loss and devastation.  But as the days passed, I realized that life is often like that—beautiful and difficult, joyful and painful, all at once.  This experience served as a reminder that even in our moments of peace, we’re never truly disconnected from the world’s struggles.  It’s easy to get caught up in our own lives, but empathy and awareness of others’ hardships are essential.

As I return to work and school, I carry these lessons with me, especially as I prepare to enter the legal field.  Whether I’m advocating for clients or navigating tough cases, staying empathetic and understanding of others’ challenges will make me better at what I do.  Life is unpredictable, but if we can find balance and remain compassionate, we can better serve those who rely on us.
